Who Qualifies for Reduced EDT?

Reduced EDT is primarily available to qualifying holders of foreign car driving licences from countries without a driving licence exchange agreement with Ireland.

01

Foreign Driving Licence

You generally need to have held a qualifying full foreign car licence for at least two years before your Irish learner permit was issued.

02

Irish Learner Permit

You must hold an Irish learner permit and meet the relevant residency and application requirements.

03

NDLS Approval

Reduced EDT is not automatic. You must apply through the NDLS and receive official approval.

Important: Some foreign licence holders may qualify only for an exemption from the six-month waiting period. They must still complete the full twelve EDT sessions unless separately approved for Reduced EDT.
